Create an export template
Build and test a reusable column layout for future exports.
Goal
This guide creates a focused template whose output remains predictable across repeated exports.
Create the template
- Open Export templates.
- Select the For sale, For rent, or Sold tab that matches the intended exports.
- Select New template.
- Confirm the property listing type.
- Select whether the template is used with the extension or a Cloud product.
- Choose Basic or Advanced depth.
- Enter a descriptive name, such as
For-sale pricing review. - Choose the file format.
- Decide whether to remove empty columns.
- Search or expand field groups and select only the fields needed for the task.
- Drag selected columns into the order expected by your spreadsheet or import process.
- Select Create template.
Test it
Apply the template to a small compatible export. Open the generated file and verify:
- column names and order;
- date and currency values;
- fields that are commonly empty;
- file compatibility with the program that will read it.
Edit the template if necessary. Previously exported files do not change when a template is edited.
Avoid common mistakes
- A template for the extension does not automatically appear in Cloud Importer.
- A Basic template cannot include Advanced-only fields.
- Removing empty columns can produce a different set of columns from one file to the next.
- Exporting all image URLs can create wide, large files.
- Selecting a field does not guarantee that Zillow provides a value for every property.
