# How to Update the Extension

## Overview

Keeping the Zillow Data Exporter extension up-to-date is crucial for it to function correctly. While your browser typically handles updates automatically, there are times when a manual update is needed to get the latest version immediately. This guide explains why updates are frequent and how to perform a manual update.

***

## Why Updates Are Frequent

The extension's primary function is to extract data from the Zillow website. Because of this direct dependency, any changes Zillow makes to its website layout can cause the extension to stop working.

When this happens, we release a new version to adapt to the changes. We also release updates to fix bugs reported by users and to improve performance.

## Automatic vs. Manual Updates

* **Automatic Updates**: Your Chrome browser will automatically download and install the latest version of the extension within a few days of its release. This process happens in the background.
* **Manual Updates**: If the extension suddenly stops working (likely due to a Zillow update), you shouldn't wait for the automatic update. A manual update will force your browser to download the latest version immediately.
